Dinner and slumber at Weru Weru River Lodge.
Day 2: Machame gate- Machame camp
Climbing time: 5 -7 hours.
Have a morning breakfast and then and prepare for a set off out of Moshi town with the driver to Machame gate. This will take you about 50 minutes to get to the gate as you drive through Machame village found on the lower slopes of the mountain. Upon arrival, kick off the climb to Machame camp passing through the rain forest. You will be luck to see some of the primates like blue monkeys. Dinner and repose at Machame camp.
Day 3: Machame camp – Shira 2 camp
Climbing time: 4 – 6 hours.
After a morning grab, leave the parcel of Kilimanjaro’s rainforest and ascend to Shira2 camp. You will pass through steepy and rocky ridge until you reach the Shira plateau. Proceed to the open moorlands and then to a large gorge until you arrive at Shira 2 camp which will be our restring point for the day.
Day 4: Shira camp 2- Barranco camp
Climbing time: 4 – 5 hours.
From the Shira Plateau, head eastward along a hill, past the junction that leads to Kibo’s top. Your route will change as you go, veering to the South-East towards the “Shark’s Tooth” lava tower. Soon after crossing the tower, we come to the second junction, which takes us to the Arrow Glacier at a height of 16,000 feet. We now resume our descent to the Barranco Hut at a height of 13,000 feet. We stay the night, have dinner, and nap here. Even if you begin and end the day at the same elevation, it is still important for acclimatization since it helps your body get ready for summit day.
Day 5: Barranco camp – Karanga camp
Climbing time: 4 -5 hours.
Scaling the Barranco Wall constitutes the first leg of today’s journey. It looks more difficult than it is, but safety is the top priority, and you will be secured if necessary. However, you have to make y=use of your legs and hands. The trail continues with numerous portions of ascent and descent, a few stream crossings, curving, and rising, halting for lunch in the Karanga Valley. The last ascent to Barafu Camp (4640 m) would take you another two to three hours after lunch. Drink a lot of water tonight, make an effort to eat, and get a good night’s rest.
Day 6: Karanga- Uhuru- Horombo camp
Climbing time: 6 -8 hours.
Start the climb to the peak around midnight. The present situation is rather difficult due to the high heights, windy, and chilly weather. You will be amazed by the magnificent sunset once you reach Mawenzi peak from Gillmans point. Uhuru summit can be reached after a further two-hour hike for a once-in-a-lifetime photo opportunity.
Following this session, descend to Horombo Hut and take in the African wildlife. After a few moments of admiring the African plains and your achievement, we make our way down to Horombo Hut. We eat our last dinner on the mountain later that night after a well-deserved snooze.
Day 7: Horombo – Mweka camp – Moshi.
Descending time: 3 -4 hours.
On this last day, after breakfast, descend to Mweka camp and then proceed to Mweka gate where you will get your certificates and then meet your driver for a transfer to Moshi. From this town, you will either be taken to your hotel or Kilimanjaro international airport for your flight back home. This marks the end of our safari.
